Today I pushed out a major update to LonelyCache. Revisions include:
- Geocaching HQ has revamped the application programming interface (API) that LonelyCache uses to retrieve geocaching data. The API was changed to a more modern and efficient interface and extensive updates were made to LonelyCache to convert to this new interface. See my announcement of this change. Things were working very well in my test sandbox, so I'm confident this will be a big improvement for LonelyCache.
- User's now have a profile setting to use their Ignore Cache List or not. This was added due to the way the Ignore List is retrieved with the new API. You might not want to use your Ignore List if it has a lot of caches in it. I'm hoping this may change but haven't heard any response from Geocaching HQ yet.
- Adding your newly published caches when you access LonelyCache has been improved. Previously, only cache hides within 30 miles of your home coordinates could be fetched from Geocaching HQ and added. Now All one's caches can be fetched and added.
- Adding newly published caches to LonelyCache is now much more efficient. Now, most recently published caches should automatically be added to LonelyCache within a day of when they are published. At this time, California and Texas, states where LonelyCache only partially extends, will not be included.
- The leader boards have been off due to some changes Geocaching HQ made to conform to the GDPR (laws concerning internet privacy in Europe). That issue should now resolve itself in the next several days as the affected Geocaches and Geocachers are updated on LonelyCache. See here for more details.
- On a Geocache page, the link (button) to the geocache listing on geocaching.com has been disabled except for Premium members. This change is to align LonelyCache with the API Partners agreement.
- On a Geocache page for a premium cache, the Sync button is only displayed for Premium members. This change is to align LonelyCache with the API Partners agreement.
Enjoy,
Russell
