Development Status & Initial Area of Coverage

This past week we have been in communication with Groundspeak in regards to moving from using the geocaching.com test site to using the Live API. Groundspeak seems to be really excited about this project, so much so that we've been put under a lot of pressure to include the Pacific Northwest in the LCP. In order to accomodate this, we will be adjusting the initial area of coverage from Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah to Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. After running for a month or two, we'll be expanding to Montana and Wyoming, then California. If things go well, then, and only then will we be able to start including the traditional DGP regions.

Ummmm....Quick question....I thought you were starting small, and thus couldn't include California and or Mexico...So how do we add Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming before these others? I hope this is an april fools joke.

I sure hope it's an April fools joke too.

Joke or no, I am just glad to hear Geocaching.com exicted about the project. That kind of support is really welcome.
I seem to remember DGP only included portions of California. Mexico is dangerous at this point, so every cache there is lonely.
Sounds like once one state gets operable, then others could come into place more quickly.
Thanks again for all you are doing!

Please don't get me wrong, I am excited that we are getting closer...excited that Geocaching.com is happy and I understand that Mexico is dangerous right now. However I think those are separate from my question, of

I believe that the mexico question is in another thread, but most BC cachers would agree that the "danger" real or perceived is inherent to most quality caches of 100+points. Hell, thats why I play the game...to go to places and find caches that most others won't spend the time, money, effort, and risk...or all the above to complete. I went to Mexico to find the #1 DGP BC cache at the time. Planned an entire week around this one cache. So I feel that my efforts should be rewarded, and am obviously not bashful about saying so. I was totally OK with not starting with it but had the feeling that it would be added as LCP grew. Well before we went to other parts of the nation, especially since we(followers of DGP) are the main followers and supporters right now. Makes sense to me anyway. thanks to all that allowed me to post my $.02.
Admin...thanks again for getting me excited about caching....I have been talking up the LCP and was actually discussing some trips with adrenalin junkie and mulligan looky lous for some summer BC cache adventures when we got together for my birthday this weekend. looking forward to seeing the site, and stats.

I also hope this is an april fools joke. If I read correctly, it will now be starting in the northwest, and we in the southwest will just have to wait to see anything?
If the project started in the southwest, and then expanded to other areas, and is being run by cachers from the southwest, then shouldn't the beta start in the southwest? I'm all for getting the support of Groundspeak, but honestly, it was their changes that were the straw that broke the DGP camels back.
Please, roll it out in the original coverage area first. GS lackeys can wait: they can't miss what they never had. On the other hand, we southwest cachers have detoxed and withdrawn but still have mighty cravings
Again, I reinterate my appreciation of all you do, but please don't keep making us wait.

I apologize if this caused some of you a bit too much stress, anger or angst. This was just supposed to add a little fun

and only for a short period of time as I did
post the real status a few hours later. Hmm, what should we do next year

I assure you both Redfist and I are working diligently on this project and are doing our best to go live sooner than later. Some of it is actually quite complex and involved and time consuming to create, so

It's a good thing Redfist and I are so dang good at this stuff

I admit it, you got me.
I would have waited to post if I had read it on April 1, but I didn't see it until April 7, and the lack of an "April Fools" post caused me to believe that it was in earnest. Overthinking combined with the work week from $%&# I guess.
I actually didn't play any April Fools jokes this year, because my daughters told me that last years was way too mean.
