I have been watching but not saying much. This seems like a good time to pass along kudos from those who have been waiting for the project to come to a successful fruition. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel now. Thanks for all the hard work. :D

Wow! Looks really good. I'm not sure you need to flash it up at all.

Do you plan to display the GC number with the cache name, at least on some pages? Just for the fun of it, I went to gc.com and searched by name for one of the caches in the teaser, The Devil Made Me Do It - and found that there are 65 caches by that name. Took me only a minute or so to find the right one, but in some cases, a search by name yields hundreds of returns, making it nearly impossible to find the desired cache. It is one of my pet peeves about gc.com.

If you look at the two pictures with cache details, including the one for The Devil Made Me Do It, you will notice a button that has the GC code on it. Clicking on that button will take you to the cache listing on geocaching.com. I think that should be good enough. We probably won't add the GC code to lists of caches. In the lists, the cache name links to the cache details page. Likewise, the cache owner's name links to the cache owner's stats page.

I like how you listed our puzzle cache in the teaser right before you go out and knock down the number of points it will get on this site when the site goes live!

Seriously, thanks for all your efforts here, and even though we'll never appear on a leader board here, Judi and I are looking forward to the formal debut.

Got it! Perfect! I didn't realize thsat the scroll bar would actually scroll - I thought it was part of the screen grab, so I ignored it.

Thanks

Very cool sneak peak! I share the majority opinion so far that content is more important than presentation for now. Very excited! :D

So, now that you've put out a teaser, is the next step a trailer?
Voiceover: "In a world without DGP... One man stood up and said, 'Never again.'"
Man: "There are caches out there that need to be found!"
(Begin montage of action-adventure sequences as music crescendos.)
Voiceover: "This summer... the most exciting adventure... will be the one you make yourself."
(Music climaxes and silent, cut to black) Title card: "The Lonely Cache Project"
Voiceover: "The Lonely Cache Project... This time, it's personal."
(Orchestral sting over exciting visual, fade to black) Title card: "Coming Spring 2012"
Okay, maybe not. Just keep up the good work!

Progress looks great! I'm scheduled to move out to Washington DC at the end of May, so it looks like I need to start a big last ditch effort to garner some points. I'll have a couple years of future absence to make up for.

I'm looking forward to the advent of the site. Even if I won't be a big user (due to proximity), I'll still use it to stay vicariously attached to the SW.

Now for the real biweekly status update :?

We have contacted Groundspeak about what we need to do to move from the Live API staging servers to the, um, Live API. Now we know what Groundspeak expects and we are working to close the gaps in what we have and what they expect from our application. Once we get access to Geocaching.com's live data, we will be able to test what we have with the ever changing geocache data and develop real stats for the LCP.

We have met with Redfist's Graphic/Web Designer friend and discussed branding ideas for the site. He has been working on some concepts for us and it is very encouraging to me. I think the end product will be special and fit the image we are looking for.

We have added account registration/login to the LCP. Accounts will be tied directly to a user's Geocaching.com account so that user will be able to do more than just browse the leaderboards and such. I'll touch on this more when Redfist and I solidify the ideas we have been bandying about.

Now for the exciting stuff. We are now able to calculate the scores needed for several of the planned leaderboards. You've seen one result of this when I created a CacheStat page. Now I'll be able to create a CacherStat page too along with web pages for the various leaderboards.

Lastly, despite what I previously reported, I really don't know if Groundspeak is excited about this project or not. I do know that we are not planning to include any of the Pacific Northwest in the LCP to start with .
