Re: How things are updating...
It's been a long time since I've done this so here goes. As of a few minutes ago, LonelyCache has 191,907 geocaches, 22,620,800 finds, and 454,625 geocachers. That's about 4 thousand fewer caches, 2 million more finds, and 70 thousand more geocachers. Interesting.

Re: How things are updating...
I thought I'd check the latest numbers after the latest update. LonelyCache currently has 191,930 geocaches, 22,766,336 finds, and 462,348 geocachers. The number of geocaches has barely changed since early last December yet I know there's been well over a thousand caches published since then, so a lot of caches have been archived too.Corfman Clan wrote:It's been a long time since I've done this so here goes. Re: How things are updating...
In case you didn't know, a whole slew of caches were archived in Nevada late February (over 20K) so LonelyCache's counts dropped considerably. LonelyCache currently has 176,774 geocaches, 20,903,269 finds, and 409,065 geocachers. I should also note that somewhere in there, I fixed an issue that was causing geocachers without any hides and finds in LonelyCache to not be removed from the system, so the 53K fewer cachers can't all be attributed to Geocaching HQ nuking all those caches.
Re: How things are updating...
20,000 caches nuked in Nevada. That's quite a hit.

Re: How things are updating...
Just thought I'd check and report on things. Currently LonelyCache has 177,278 geocaches, 21,095,250 finds, and 416,558 geocachers. So about 500 more caches, 192K more finds and 7,500 more cachers. Not a bad change since I last reported.

Re: How things are updating...
Since it's been over a year since I last checked, I figured I better. I do know that people are still getting out caching during this pandemic and that there have been a lot, and I mean a lot, of caches being published, at least in Arizona. So currently, LonelyCache has 179,678 geocaches, 21,684,058 finds, and 449,399 geocachers. So not even a 2500 cache increase in the past year (though LonelyCache has 14,263 caches published in the last year, so quite a few were archived too). I do see a large increase in the number of geocachers though.
Now, get out and find a LonelyCache!

Re: How things are updating...
Now that Oregon and Washington are a part of LonelyCache, LonelyCache now has 237,356 geocaches, 28,027,063 finds, and 625,560 geocachers. So adding those two states added 57,678 geocaches, 6,343,005 finds, and 176,161 geocachers.

Re: How things are updating...
After two months with Oregon and Washington in LonelyCache, LonelyCache now has 236,876 geocaches, 28,064,526 finds, and 633,455 geocachers. Interesting that the number of caches has dropped by almost 500. I imagine there will be a lot of caches archived in Washington and Oregon too once the wildfires are done. So tragic

Re: How things are updating...
Just thought I'd check the numbers again. LonelyCache now has 236,287 geocaches, 28,065,958 finds and 637,703 geocachers. So in a bit over two months, the number of caches has dropped by 589, the number of finds has increased by 1,432 and the number of cachers has increased by 4,248. Interesting.

Re: How things are updating...
It's been over a year since I last did this. So, just now, LonelyCache has 237,308 geocaches, 28,557,475 finds, and 672,335 geocachers. So in the past year, the number of geocaches has increased by 1021, finds by 491,517, and geocachers by 34,632. Cool.

Re: How things are updating...
I checked the numbers before adding 25 California counties to LonelyCache. There were 238,091 geocaches, 28,692,647 finds, and 675,207 geocachers. That's fairly similar to my last check. I'm looking forward to how things change with the California expansion.

Re: How things are updating...
After adding the 28 California counties (I added three more after the first 25) we have 278,004 geocaches, 31,599,861 finds, and 745,054 geocachers. So that's an increase of about 40 thousand geocaches, 3 million finds, and 60 thousand geocachers. Not as much as I was expecting.

Re: How things are updating...
I ended up adding 44 of the 58 California counties. That's all but 14 counties south of the bay and along the coast. After all that, there are now 298,588 geocaches, 33,134,347 finds, and 797,628 geocachers. It appears the California expansion added about 60.5 thousand geocaches, 4.5 million finds, and 122.4 thousand geocachers. Not too shabby.

Re: How things are updating...
I decided to add eight more California counties. All that are left are the six coastal counties in southern California. I checked immediately after activating the eight counties and there were 299,191 geocaches, 33,218,448 finds, and 799,169 geocachers. Now to wait and see how big of an increase that creates.

Now that all of California has been added to LonelyCache, right now, it has 360,752 geocaches, 38,103,395 finds, and 957,692 geocachers. That's almost a million geocachers!

Now that we're into the second month of 2023, here're the latest counts for LonelyCache: 357,935 geocaches, 38,290,339 finds, and 983,719 geocachers. The numbers haven't changed too much since the last report.

Re: How things are updating...
Just another update for this mid-October. The latest counts for LonelyCache: 355,887 geocaches, 38,166,143 finds, and 1,014,089 geocachers. We dropped about 2000 geocaches and made it over a million geocachers.
