Request to Cover New England

Post by sloth96 »

Howdy,

There is an active resurrection community in the Boston area. Mostly this is based on the Resurrection challenge GC2FMJ5.

There would likely be an interest in having a third party tracking of lonely caches to help find these Resurrections.

Thanks.

It was interesting looking at the Resurrection Challenge cache. Thanks for pointing it out. Last Saturday, I found a cache that hadn't been found for 1686 days so I'll have to go find that if I'm ever in the area.

We've had requests to add the Mid-Atlantic states before but not New England. It would be fitting though, since the LonelyCache web hosting provider is near Boston.

I'd really like to expand LonelyCache but it's a fairly data intensive application and I need to concern myself with how much system resources it is consuming. Basically, I need to step carefully when expanding LonelyCache and I'd prefer not to have holes in the area it covers so any expansion will most likely travel outward from the area currently covered.

That being said, a Geocaching HQ Lackey mentioned that they are considering adding some tools to the API to help with finding lonely caches. I don't know what this would be, but if they do, I'd certainly try to update LonelyCache to take advantage of that for areas outside of LonelyCache's area of coverage.

Any word on whether the API has been extended to facilitate lonely caching?

No, I haven't heard anything more and none of the API communication I've received has mentioned this. :(
