and We're Live! 10 years

Has it really been ten years? LonelyCache went live on International Geocaching Day, 2012. That was August 18, so yes. It was fun reading the thread announcing that milestone, and We're Live! I remember Redfist and I attended an event that morning, then we wrapped up some loose ends and turned the w...

Re: How things are updating...

Now that all of California has been added to LonelyCache, right now, it has 360,752 geocaches, 38,103,395 finds, and 957,692 geocachers. That's almost a million geocachers!

Re: Expanding LonelyCache into more of California

I decided to activate the remaining six California counties. They are Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. This means that all of California is now a part of LonelyCache. As usual, it will take about a week to populate these into LonelyCache.

Re: How things are updating...

I decided to add eight more California counties. All that are left are the six coastal counties in southern California. I checked immediately after activating the eight counties and there were 299,191 geocaches, 33,218,448 finds, and 799,169 geocachers. Now to wait and see how big of an increase th...

Re: Expanding LonelyCache into more of California

After no plans to continue expanding into California, I just activated eight more counties. Only the six coastal counties in southern California remain. The eight activated counties are: Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz.

Re: How things are updating...

I ended up adding 44 of the 58 California counties. That's all but 14 counties south of the bay and along the coast. After all that, there are now 298,588 geocaches, 33,134,347 finds, and 797,628 geocachers. It appears the California expansion added about 60.5 thousand geocaches, 4.5 million finds, ...

Re: Expanding LonelyCache into more of California

I decided to go ahead and activate four more counties: Fresno, Kern, Kings, and Tulare. Wait a week and everything should be populated. This makes 44 of California's 58 counties. The 14 remaining counties are south of the bay and along the coast. At this time, I am not planning on activating them.

Here're five more just activated: Napa, San Joaquin, Solano, Sonoma, and Stanislaus. As usual, they should be fully populated in about a week.

Re: How things are updating...

After adding the 28 California counties (I added three more after the first 25) we have 278,004 geocaches, 31,599,861 finds, and 745,054 geocachers. So that's an increase of about 40 thousand geocaches, 3 million finds, and 60 thousand geocachers. Not as much as I was expecting.

Re: How things are updating...

I checked the numbers before adding 25 California counties to LonelyCache. There were 238,091 geocaches, 28,692,647 finds, and 675,207 geocachers. That's fairly similar to my last check. I'm looking forward to how things change with the California expansion.

Expanding LonelyCache into more of California

I have just updated LonelyCache to make it easier to add counties. To start, all 58 California Counties have been added and to LonelyCache. However, only twenty-five have been activated. Over the next week, caches within these 25 counties will be added to LonelyCache. I have basically selected count...

Site Update December 20, 2021

Hi,

I have just updated LonelyCache. Besides some behind the scenes changes, I have fixed the issue where links to the Reno-Carson and Trans-Pecos regions didn't work.

Enjoy,
Russell

Re: How things are updating...

It's been over a year since I last did this. So, just now, LonelyCache has 237,308 geocaches, 28,557,475 finds, and 672,335 geocachers. So in the past year, the number of geocaches has increased by 1021, finds by 491,517, and geocachers by 34,632. Cool.

Forum software updated

Hi, as many of you know, the site was down for a bit end of October through November 5 due to another ransomware attack on the host provider. Since then, the forum has been down as well. As part of the recovery, LonelyCache was moved to different, more secure servers. The version of the forum softwa...

Site Update March 6, 2021

Hi, I just pushed an emergency update out of LonelyCache. It appears that GC HQ changed the transaction level security from 1.1 to 1.2 and that broke the authentication/authorization handshaking between LonelyCache and Geocaching.com. Unfortunately this came at a time when I was making other changes...
