Re: wishes
I think it would be great, now that the site is working well and seems robust, to add some documentation for new users. Whenever I meet other cachers, I bring up LonelyCache, but the site is a bit confusing without any info as to how points are calculated, or what constitutes a backcountry cache, et...

Re: Paris' Poison
Although these 'Achilles points' might be amusing to track, it seems to me that those going for high point Lonely Caches are going to be the same ones who get high Achilles points, for the most part. One exception is if you are the FTF a high point cache. Let's see, if I find a 3-year-old cache with...

Re: Point System ideas
Actually, while I like 100 pts. per year, it really isn't important. I can certainly live with a point per day. It is obviously easier to code, based on the above thread!
Though like has been said, computing points is the least of the coding that needs to be done...

Re: Point System ideas
I like 100 points per year. On a related note, I would love to see the points granted to each finder based on DAYS found, not actual number of find logs. Here's my reasoning: There are several true backcountry caches I have investigated online that look really intriguing, even though they would take...
Re: Regions
Being somewhat of a programmer and surveyor myself, I realize the very large amount of work required to create arbitrary region boundaries vs. using something already existing, like counties. Of course, once it's done, it's done, but it would still take a LOT of work to do it 'right' for every state...
Re: wishes
Not being much of a hider yet myself, I don't have the perspective of some of you more prolific folks. (I do have materials in my trunk now for a bunch of caches; come nicer weather, I'll be placing them all, most in the backcountry!) Anyway, I think RockyMtnRidgeRunner makes some very good points. ...
Re: Branding
I like the Topo map idea, maybe with a single geocache icon on it. Or how about a photo or graphic of somebody hiking alone in the woods?MooseMob wrote:How about something more navigational, like a compass rose or a generic excerpt from a Topo map?
Re: wishes
After reading more in the forums here, I guess I'll have to moderate my position in my previous post. Hiders of good backcountry caches do deserve credit for their efforts. So I guess I'm back to asking for just separate hider and finder point totals, not eliminating hider points. That still begs th...

Re: Thanks to ADMN.
I am really excited to see someone working to continue the fun engendered by the DGP site. Thanks a ton!
Re: Branding
I realize that pretty much all of us are in the mountain west, so we like mountains. However, I see this site eventually expanding out of the western US. While mountains are certainly a good icon for wilderness, is there something more generic?
Re: wishes
... Some of this would be taken care of by splitting Hider and Finder points... I agree. My experience with DGP has made me feel strongly that there should be separate hider and finder point totals, NOT added together for an overall total. Or maybe, as others have suggested, no points to the hider ...
